NYC Thunderstorm pics from my fire escape December 26th 2010

A view from my fire escape. December winter storm, blizzard, thunderstorm whatever you want to call it. Cars are out of commission all along fourth ave in the Park Slope/Gowanus Brooklyn area. Some folks appear to have left their cars. These pics were taken at 3:00am (EST)

Sorry for the blurryness but I didnt want to use my flash and kept as steady of a hand as I could.

Fire Dept out and about helping folks out. These 3 cars managed to move- only one got stuck at the next intersection.

(Pic above) looking West on Fourth Ave (after 6th Street) cars lined up as far as I can see. Some appear stalled. A few make it past the bus on the bottom of pic (which is also stuck)

"Size Me Up" Pink Bracelet

I used three different sized pink beads for this bracelet. I also used some clear beads with silver insides to complete the look. It's made with stretch cord.

Turquoise Bracelet

Simple Turquoise Bracelet. This one was made with stretch cord- so it has a "Fits Most" fit. I am actually part of the few that this did not fit- lol. I gave it to my sis, it was the perfect size for her.

DIY Glitter Wall Heart Hook

So as I mentioned in my last post, as time goes by I make more and more items for my craft room. This time I Fabutized a heart hook. This unfinished wood piece was found at the wooden section of Michaels (and will prob be at your local craft store too!) I think it was $1. I painted the whole thing- minues the hook itself an aqua color. (I think its called Island Blue, If you want the exact manufacturer info comment or message me) I then used modpodge to adhere the glitter! I also covered the hook itself with glitter. Dont forget to seal it with Mod Podge (a few times) so when it is put to use the glitter does not rub off!)

This also makes a GREAT Last minute holiday gift.

Think!

As time goes by I am slowly building the look and feel of my craft room. It has a ways to go but in the end it will be an amazing room. I painted this Thought Cloud with the words "Think" in them to use as inspiration when I am in the craft room.

Gasp! Look at my pink SketchBook!

Ok, I found this at Barnes and Noble and drooled all the way to the counter to pay for it. I added some pink Rhinestones to the front cover, just to fabutize it even more. Do you want to know a secret?....I havent even used it! It's just too dam cute- I'm waiting for the perfect theme to use it for. Anyone have some ideas? I do that a lot with notebooks, I purchase them because they look SO great and never want to write in them and ruin them- weird I know.

Cute lil' Silver Glitter Heart Wall Decor

I used a small wooden trinket box (found at most local craft stores for $1) and a small wooden heart (also found in the same section) First I painted the top of the box pink. You could use any color you prefer. Then I used Mod Podge and sprinkled glitter on my desired areas, in this case the sides of the box top and the heart itself. Although it appears to have dried within an hour, let it set overnight.

Moment of Reflection.....

Even if I don't sell anything through Sellz Cute Things- I am proud that I am being PROactive in my life and atleast taking risks- I started my own business- on my own- everything is self taught- even through all the obstacles that have been and will continue to be thrown at me- I am that Latina that inspires and leads and breaks barriers for all future Spanish girls.....I am "At-Risk" to SUCCEED Biiiiiii!ches!
Sellz Cute Things came about through a difficult birth.  I am now at my 24yrs of living beginning to reflect on everything I am, was, will be and am expected to be and continue being. It's a story I hope to write about one day and use as an inspiration for future generations of women. Born Puerto Rican and living in NYC, its like I was stamped on my behind with the words "At-Risk". When I first heard this term I was disgusted- why are we automatically tagged disadvantaged? You know what I hear when I come across "At-Risk"...... AT RISK TO SUCCEED! (and this goes to ALL the male/female gay/straight, whatever country you're from youth population)
And thats the reason why I work with afterschool programs working primarily with minority youth, and why I will become a teacher one day. I want to continue to make a difference in young peoples lives and will always be a leader.

Too many folks are just letting life pass them by, why? Be Pro-Active and take risks. You have nothing to lose, only knowledge and experience to gain....I PROMISE a hunger for success will come about.

ME Mini Scrapbook

I made this a few months ago. I found this AWESOME pink houndstooth/herringbone (like) print gift card holder at Michaels for like $1 or $2. I purchased it knowing I wanted to make something with it. Then after seeing mini scrapbooks at a local craft fair I knew what I wanted to do!

I used one (black and white) 9 x 12 patterned paper and one hot pink 9 x 12 sheet. I cut them both in half (long way) and then folded the accordion style. (about three or four times- enough to fit into the tin) I used a glue stick to adhere both papers together. This is a tricky part when making this album, getting them lined up together and then creasing the papers again so it lies semi flat.

After it dried, I added pictures and journaling to the mini scrapbook. I cut the corners of the scrapbook so it could fit better into the tin.

Faux Pearl Bracelets and Necklace

I've been meaning to make some pearl pieces for a while now (like a whole year- I have lots of different colored pearls) so this weekend I finally got the creative juice to make these! Hope you like 'em. I LOVE them. This is my new favorite necklace. Its Hot Pink faux pearls with a silver bead in between, all held together with a pink chain and lobster clasp in the back.

These are the bracelets. (Only the pink one is part of a matching set- the necklace above)

Vintage Gold Flower Bracelet and Necklace.

I made some jewelry this weekend. I woke up really inspired and since its been so long since I made new pieces I took advantage. This set is part of the Vintage Collection.

This is a GAW-geous Vintage Pearl Gold Flower Necklace. It is long and you put it on by slipping it on over your head. I did not put a clasp on this one (mainly because I didn't have a gold clasp) But it also falls perfectly over the chest area, which is the style for necklaces now.

This is a Vintage (Faux) Pearl Flower Bracelet. Its made with Stretch cord so it fits anyone!

Earrings for my aunt

This is Silvernati (Silver Naughty)- Sequinati's sister I havent finished her completely yet, notice the empty spot on her (bottom right)I used mod podge and chunky silver glitter to make her.

Personalized Compact Heart Mirror

I made this for my close friend's birthday. Using Mod Podge, letter beads, a heart earring and aluminum flowers. To make sure this mirror stays extra strong I used E6000 glue under the pink heart (what was originally an earring)

Cute Envelope Purse (or Clutch)

Look what I made! I've been working on my crochet skills all summer long (after being taught by my campers this summer) I'm so in love with it. I used a bright yellow button to contrast the beautiful teal color. I used a "special stitch" which is "sc, dc" throughout the whole row (or bottom portion of the clutch/purse.) Then its "sc" for the top flap only and its decreased to make the triangular shape. Sorry for all the sc/dc lingo folks- but my fellow crocheters will understand it.

Quick Easy Cheap way to stop burning yourself when cooking.

Ok I burned the living daylights out of my fingers a few weeks ago while cooking. (something I LOVE to do but only get the time to occasionally do- cooking not burning myself) I didnt have a Kitchen towel around to prevent any more burns. So I put on my "thinking cap" and came up with this cheap, easy, quick way to prevent myself from being burned by the hot pot lid. Just take a strip of Aluminum Foil, pull it through the lid handle and pinch them at the top to make a straight upward handle...and voila! If you have some ideas of your own please do share them in my comments section below!

My Dream House....

I Love the teal Chest/Vanity thing. Gotta have THAT chair! and the mirror is AWESOME!
What a GRAND living room this is!!! I would just change the blue wall on the right and the floor. I also would paint all the brown furniture (towards the right int he back) white or hot pink or teal.
I want it ALL in this bathroom! I actually have an antique tub like this one right now.

I found all of these pictures at  O MUNDO DE DÁLIA via Hidden in France
